The Faculty of Arts was founded by Professor M. L. Pin Malakul, the President of Silpakorn University at that time, as the university’s fifth faculty, but the first school established at the new campus on the grounds of Sanam Chandra Palace in Nakhonpathom Province.
The Faculty of Arts places great importance on high standards of teaching and learning by providing various additional academic and extra-curricular activities in order to enhance learning environment and students’ development. The availability of the Self-Access Center and Distance Learning Media Center, for example, has allowed students unlimited opportunities to practice both computer and language skills. The Faculty of Arts also plays an increasing role in research. Incentive procedures and measures have been in place to encourage faculty members to conduct research in related fields. For instance, research grants are made available, and financial support is allocated for faculty members to disseminate their research findings at national and international levels. In addition, the Faculty of Arts has organized a number of activities to offer extra-curricular services to the members of the local communities in order to maintain and preserve Thailand’s traditional art and culture continually and annually.
